It is evident that houses in the ancient times had no doors! There
used to be a passage that was meant for the exit or entry in the
home. Later, doors did come into existence, but people were still
carefree and slept at night keeping the doors of their houses
open. Even today, if you visit any tribal or remote area, the
houses hardly have any door. They have an entrance which is either
covered with a piece of cloth or grass hay. The concept of ‘door’
still does not exist there.
But with passage of time,
where everything was under the process of evolution, houses were
no exception. Slowly and gradually they made progress in the
process and thus, in the modern age, we find the concept of ‘home’
completely changed. ‘Security’ has become a major concern
nowadays. Especially in the urban areas, it is a major concern.
Hence, the technology has stepped in and for security reasons;
today we have doors available that can be opened only with their
passwords.

In big cities, there is always a fear of theft and burglary; hence it is equally essential for the doors to be strong enough so that they cannot be easily broken or opened. But apart from security, safety and privacy; there is an aspect of art and décor associated with it since the homes started adopting the concept of doors. Today the choice is majorly governed by it, as the other factors are bound to be present and common with all types of doors.
Hinged Single Door
A hinged single door is a very modern style of door that can vary in pattern and overall design. Hinged doors can be used for either external or internal use and can swing inwards, outwards, or both, depending on what you choose.
Bi-Fold Doors
Bi-fold doors are comprised of glass panels that can be either framed or frameless. Typically made up of two or more panels, they can be folded or run along a sill track, which can help to create the illusion of a larger interior to the house.
Pivot Doors
While not as common, pivot doors offer a unique design for the homeowner who likes to stand out from the crowd. Pivot doors, like the name suggest, can open and close in any direction. These are ideal for large interior openings and can be used to create a stunningly modern room divider or a visually interesting entryway to your garden or patio.
Sliding Doors
One of the more popular types of glass door, sliding doors consist of a glass panel that runs along a track parallel to the wall structure of a home. Sliding doors save on space and are a great option for those who want to open up the room of a small home or apartment. They’re also one of the most affordable options to install and maintain.
Stacking Doors
Similar to sliding doors, stacking doors function in a similar fashion, but with more moving panels. As the panels move, they affect the one adjacent to them, causing a domino effect in which each door is pushed in place. The interlocking door panels add greater security and weather protection compared with a traditional sliding glass door.
French Doors
French doors are basically a pair of single-hinged doors that open away from each other. Traditionally, they have multiple timber-framed glass panels and swing inwards, but today, anything goes. Used for both interior and exterior doors, they provide an elegant transition between rooms and spaces.
